The peacock has stood for beauty, pride and renewal since antiquity - its tail was read as a field of watching eyes, and in many traditions as a sign of immortality. As a brooch it is one of the most decorative motifs there is: a long, sweeping tail that sits beautifully along a coat lapel or across the shoulder of a dress.

Choosing a peacock brooch

Fan-tail designs show the full spread of feathers and suit a large, plain area like a wool coat. Long-tailed designs follow a lapel or neckline, and single feather brooches are the most understated. For color, verdant green and azure blue echo the real bird; golden and violet versions read as more formal.
